Saving Mommy

This morning at breakfast Kevin just started going "Bang bang bang bang!" while looking at me. He wasn't really pointing a finger or saying he was shooting, but he was playing. (For those who dont' have boys, everything is or can be a bad guy who needs to be taken down so others can be saved.) Colin immediately started crying and yelling "No, stop! Not mommy!" It took .16 seconds for him to jump to my rescue. Good to know who I can turn to.

Funny Things Said

Tonight at dinner, the following conversation occurred:

Kevin: Why are peas round?
Jane: I don't know honey.
Kevin: I wish they were square or triangle.
Jane: Why?
Kevin: Because then they wouldn't roll around my plate.

Chocolate!

Some unnamed Downtown Grandma gave the boys chocolate-covered pretzels. Kevin ate his, as usual, and loved it.


Colin thought the pretzel was just the thing to hold all the chocolate. (Look on his plate.)

Things That Are Everywhere

A while ago, Kevin noticed that Walgreen's were everywhere. Every time we would see one he would yell "They're everywhere!"

Then one day he saw "Another McDonald's." He told me "Those are everywhere too. Just like Walgreen's."

Then the list was three, and stayed that way for weeks. The three things that were everywhere were Walgreen's, McDonald's, and fire trucks.

Today, we drove past a Walgreen's, to which I pointed out were everywhere. Then I asked him what else was everywhere. Here is his new, unprompted list:

"Walgreen's, fire trucks, McDonald's, ambulances, policemen, cars, trees, grass, bushes, trucks, roads, bridges, fences, trash cans."

(I tried to write them all down in the car.)

Family Day

We had a family fun day today. After breakfast and shopping, we headed to the St. Louis Science Center. The first thing we did was see the Pirate Exhibit. It was a bit scary for the boys, especially Colin, but they did get a couple small pirates, a flag and a treasure chest to play with. As soon as Colin picked his out he kept yelling "Arrrrrrrr!"

We don't have any pictures since I forgot to get previous pictures off the camera. So I have included other family's photos from the internet. Just photo shop my kids into them.




I really like what we did for lunch. We brought our own sandwiches, pears, crackers, and raisins. The only thing that was thrown away was one napkin. Neither Kevin nor I really like what most places offer (it is too greasy), and people throw away so much stuff! Cups, plates, forks, knives, plates, wrappers, cardboard boxes, napkins. It just seems as if people don't mind that so much is disposable. I am a bit proud of us. We have started bringing as much with us that we can, like forks and plates, and even a pizza cutter to cut up food for the kids.

Anyway, after dinner we are heading to the pool. Colin has informed me that he will go down the kiddie slide. I will let you know if he does, but I won't have any pictures of it.

Dream Jobs

Kevin: "Mommy has a job. I will have a job. I am going to build airplanes. I will build fighter jets."
K2: "That's great. You can have any job you want."
Kevin: "Really? ...I am going to drive the METROLINK!!! I am going to be the conductor and sit in the front."
Colin: "Me too! Me too!"
K2: "Colin, are you going to drive the Metrolink, too?"
Colin: "Yaa."
Kevin: "Colin, you want to drive the caboose? You will drive the back and I will drive the front"

Puppy Dogs

We are very big on imaginative play in our house. The kids pretend to be everything, from babies to parents to dinosaurs to animals (this list could go on and on). We like to encourage it.

Lately the boys have been puppy dogs when they get home. And puppies get thirsty. This is how they have been asking for water for a while now.

Fun Words

While driving to daycare the other day, Kevin said, "Dang it. It is raining." K2 corrected him by saying "Kevin, we don't say dang it."

Kevin replied "Oh...damn it."

Funny Kevin Stories

So Kevin told some funny stories this weekend. Here they are.

1. When Kevin was leaving the zoo Downtown Grandma (DTG) noticed it was raining. She said, "Oh no, it is raining." Kevin yelled quite loudly "Damn it!" DTG asked him where he heard that word, to which he responded "I made it up." And then he repeated it again, yelling "Damn it!" DTG was quite embarrassed, and tried to get him to hush.

2. Someone asked him how old he was, and he held up three fingers and said "3!" They asked how old he was going to be next, and he held up four fingers and said "That many." the person then asked when he was going to turn four. Kevin gave a look like the person was an idiot and said "On my next birthday."

3. Kevin was going potty this morning in the loft. He yelled for DTG to come in. He said his pee was echoing and started laughing. Then he yelled "Hello, hello, hello!"

This kid is so entertaining.

Funny Things Said

Last night Kevin and I were talking about a birthday party we were attending the next day. We were talking about the cake and pizza we were going to eat. Then he asked if there would be anything to drink. I told him there would be juice.

Then he added, "I hope it isn't disgusting stuff. Yeah, like raccoon pee."

What?!? How does he come up with this?

Kevin Says The Strangest Things

We were driving to the doctor today. It was just Kevin and me in the car. Suddenly he yelled "Get out you old goose!" (We have been reading Sam And The Firefly, in which the firefly calls the owl an old goose.)

Surprised, I say "That came out of no where!"

Kevin says "No. It came out of me."

A Note From School

We get one of these each day Colin is at daycare. It tells us what he needs, what he ate, and his activities for the day. This note says:

"Colin fixed a plate with food and called Tiffany Benbow (his teacher) to come "eat." Then he put the plate under the loft and pulled her over, then pulled at her legs until she said "Okay, I'll sit down." After eating, he took her to the zoo, walking her all around the room."

So he made a pretend meal, and then pretended to walk around the room showing her animals. His teachers said he was naming animals as he walked around. You know what this means?

He has already gone on his first date. Man, he is good.

Measuring and Hammering

Today Colin decided to fix things around the house. (I think it had something to do with Daddy being out in the garage fixing things as well.) He went around the house measuring and then hammering. He also required a stool for each project. (Daddy was also using a stool in the garage.)

Colin Flirts

Anyone who has met Colin knows that he is a big flirt. Here is the best I have seen so far:

Downtown Grandma and I took Colin out to dinner to see Aunt Cathy. A blonde was working named Lizzie. Every time she would walk by he would stare at her, and a few times it looked like he was even checking her out. Finally, she came over to meet him. She had noticed him checking her out. He immediately starts tilting his head and smiling like crazy. He said "hi" and then "zoo." I think he asked her out to the zoo. Then he said "mom" which means he hasn't yet figured out not to take his mom on dates.

All was well until Lizzie walked away when he was looking behind him. As soon as he turned around and saw she was gone, he started yelling (very pathetically) "Zee! Zee!" I had to take him back over to her so he could say good-bye.

That kid moves fast.

Kevin's First Ransom Note

Martha

Skits

K2 and I went to Colorado to see Aunt Kelly last weekend. (Post coming soon.) The morning we left we were loading our bags into the car. Kevin saw the bags and starting talking about stealing Martha.

(Back story - Martha Speaks used to be his favorite show. Martha is a talking dog. Skits is the other dog in the household, which does not talk. On one episode there are some bad guys who want to steal Martha to make money off of her. They try to put Martha in a black bag, which happened to be the color of our luggage.)

So Kevin saw the bags and helped us carry them outside, all while saying "We are bad guys. We are taking Martha and Skits." He talked about taking Martha and Skits for about 30 minutes, which was adorable. We had a bit of time to waste before we had to leave, so I asked Kevin if he wanted to write with his new dinosaur pen. He agreed, and immediately started telling me what to write. This is what he said:


I soon realized he was leaving a ransom note. He was very proud and wanted to tape it on the window. Here he is.

He loves wearing glasses. Obviously.

Funny Things Said

We are trying to encourage Colin to use his words as often as we can. I think he is learning. Tonight I heard a thud, and ran into the kitchen to see Kevin looking suspicious and Colin on the floor crying. Kevin told me "He was in my space. I needed more room." He was adamant that he did not push Colin though. After a moment of consoling, Colin stood up and firmly said "Stop. Stop. Stop." with his hand out towards Kevin. Way to stand up for yourself Colin. His toughness fell away when his next word came out. "Hug!" He made Kevin hug him.

Kevin and I were playing with a bunch of cards that have animals on them. First we sorted out the ones that fly, then the ones that live on the farm, and then the ones that live in the water. He did great spotting the otter, dolphins, fish, turtles and ducks. Then he added bear. I questioned him on the bear, to which he replied "They have to go in the water to get the fish."
