We Have A Roller!

Gwyn now rolls from her belly to her back! She did it once last week, but I am pretty sure it was an accident. She did it again Sunday night repeatedly. Each time Kevin (son) and I would celebrate.

Bouncy Seat

This past week, Gwyn got in the bouncy seat for the first time. She has been in a few times a day since. She is already starting to play with some of the things on it and bouncy around in it. She seems to enjoy it. Now if only she will learn that this is not where she needs to keep her right hand. It is always in the same place...

McKerr Weekend 2011 Part 2

We had our second McKerr weekend of 2011. (Here is the first one.) Since the last weekend, we have added two more children to the group - Olive and Gwyn. This weekend was the first for the kids to outnumber the adults. Once the sleeping arrangements were made, which were pretty creative, things went pretty smoothly.

We arrived Friday night, and Kevin, Colin and Gywn all did great on the drive to KC. The next morning (after a 10 mile run for Steve and Kevin) we all headed to Science City. Kevin told me that he likes "all science things so I will like it." Here are a few pictures from the visit.

After naps (for almost everyone) we made dinner and played outside in the water. It was just too hot to go to the pool!



The next morning we headed to the best park I have been to. (Here and here is why.) It had several different areas of playground, most of which were shaded by large trees. Then it had a nature area, which a waterfall and stream and sand area to play in. They boys made a dam! Here are some pictures.

The Cave

Kevin and Colin have been pretending to be saber tooth tigers and grizzly bears lately. Last night the bears started to make a cave. Here are a few bats that live in the cave.

Here is Colin's bat. It has a lot of bugs flying around it.

Here are Kevin's bats. The blue one has mosquitoes in its belly. The yellow one eats grass.

I have no doubt the boys will add to it over the next week!

Colin's Green Beans

The kids have a garden at school. When they planted vegetables a few weeks ago, Colin's class also planted beans in a small cup to take home. This is what his three small beans have turned into!

A Day With My Boys

I had another day with just the boys yesterday. I am so lucky that I get to have have time with just them. I know they really like it, since I have to devote so much extra time to Gwyn.

I told them last week, and both boys were excited about it. As we got dressed, the boys decided it would be a red day, so we all put on red shirts. The next thing we did was "surprise" Pappy Grandma by dropping Gwyn off instead of dropping them off. Then we headed to Paul's Donuts for breakfast!


Next, it was the library. Colin wanted a pirate movie, so we checked out Scooby-Doo! Pirates Ahoy! Kevin was looking for more Junie B Jones books, but happened to find a series called Beast Quest. He loved it so much that we read the entire first book! He was so fun to read with. His eyes would open wide and he would get into the scary parts. He already told me that I can go to the library and get him more books. (As a Reading Specialist, I can tell you how much he comprehended, but I will be very excited when I do.)



After the library we headed to an early lunch, and then the pool. They had a wide slide in the kid area. All three of us went down it, but Colin didn't like it. Kevin loved it, and went down a bunch more times. We played "water hat" (Kevin's game where we splash each other), and Colin poured water over my head for a while. Then we went to pick up Gwyn and head home for naps.




That evening, since we had a busy day and short naps, the boys got to watch a bit of the Scooby-Doo movie Colin had picked out. After a few minutes Kevin hid under the coffee table. A little while later he asked me to turn it off. Colin said "I like it!" Kevin replied Watch it when I am not here." This movie was too scary for him:


Overall it was a GREAT day!

Another Day At The Zoo

This weekend, despite the heat, we headed to the zoo. (By the way, Kevin knows the word "zoo!" When I typed it he said "That is the word zoo. Z O O spells zoo.") The first thing we did was go to the stingray and shark exhibit. We went last year, but they did not have the sharks then. Kevin was brave and put his hand in the water, and even touched a few stingrays. (You can't touch the sharks, they don't swim close enough.) Colin was brave enough to put his hand in the water, but would pull it up whenever a stingray got too close. I was still proud of him!

Afterward, we met up with some friends and walked around looking at our favorite animals. (They are currently gorillas and rhinos.) Then we saw our first sea lion show. Both boys enjoyed the show. They even pretended to be sea lions while we were making dinner.

As soon as we got into the car at the end of our visit Colin asked "Remember when we went to the zoo and saw the sea lion show?" Yes kid, I remember. It was about 2 hours ago. That kid is so funny. He still asks us if we remember having his birthday party at the zoo, which we have done the last two years. (2010 and 2011.)

After a long and tiring day, they got to watch a little bit of Bugs Bunny that evening. Kevin wanted to sit by Gwyn. I had to get a few pictures. (Side note - Kevin gets scared of the cartoons. His words. It is so tricky to find cartoons he likes. There is no way we can ever see Toy Story 3 or Cars 2!)
