Kevin's Birthday

Another post about past activities. Eventually we will catch up. (Probably not)

This year Kevin wanted his birthday party at a bounce house. We invited a lot of his friends and everybody had a great time.

Kevin Chillin':

Colin was not very interested in doing anything. He spent a lot of time just sitting on the floor. We thought he was tired. That is, until the next morning when he threw up birthday cake. If you want to see the various shades of blue icing used in the cake, come look at the carpeting in the boys bedroom.


If anybody asks, we did not sing "Happy Birthday". That would be copyright infringement.

We also did cake and ice cream with the family the next day. Kevin loves the Beast Quest series of books. So we made him sword and shield like the hero Tom in the books.

First Soccer Practice

Kevin signed up for his first sport, Soccer. He was very excited, especially when we got him shin guards. When we signed up it was in the park closest to our house. Then they changed the time and location so it is a little bit of a hassel for us, but still worth it. The first few practices were nothing but skill drills. Kevin was a little sad he didn't get to play in a game the first day, but we explained you have to start with learning how to play.




Every week they get closer to playing a game. Last week the kids had some one-on-one matches. Being a competitive spirit, Kevin did his best to win. And he did score two to nothing on the other kid. Unfortunately had this been a real game, there would have been some yellow cards for him. I won't say he was pushing, but he was definitely using his hands and body to block out the other player.

Gwyn had pigtails for the first time Sunday. I love them.

We have teeth!

I have been able to feel two teeth for a week or so, but on Saturday morning, I finally saw them! Gwyn has two teeth on the bottom. Here is a picture, as well as some outtakes.

More Artwork (Again)

Here is some artwork from the last few weeks.

Kevin made a "microphone" from cardboard and string. (Like the conductor has at the back of the train at the zoo, with speakers throughout the train.)

The next morning we woke up and found speakers hanging up around the house.

He also hung on up in the kitchen.

This is a drawing of Colin with a balloon. A few weeks ago Colin had a balloon with a happy face on it from the doctor's office. He accidentally let go of it and it flew away. Kevin wants to get Colin a balloon "so he can be happy."

A Nice Opportunity

On the way home the other night, Kevin was talking about his new favorite show Wild Kratts. It has two brothers who teach you about animals.

Kevin told me "It is a nice opportunity, because we learn about animals."

What?!?! Where does he learn these words? And he used it correctly!

The End Of Summer

This summer was probably one of the best summers of my life. I was very lucky to have time alone with Gwyn. I am most appreciative that I had the time to recover and get plenty of sleep so that I didn't go crazy with exhaustion. (Thank you Pappy Grandma!) Having this time during the day gave me quality time with the kids on the weekends, evenings, and special days alone with the boys.

So to end the summer, we took a family trip (without Gwyn) to 6 Flags! After dropping Gwyn off and having breakfast out, we drove out. We started off on the Log Flume, which both boys liked. Then we headed to the old Castaway Kids ride, which is now Scooby-Doo. It was darker and scarier than we thought, and although both boys were scared while riding it, they both wanted to return. I think it had a lot to do with the ray guns used to shoot the bad guys on the ride.

Colin was most excited to ride the giant carousel. I think he liked being able to see the whole park.

While in the kids' area, the boys enjoyed the tamer, slower rides. Here are a few pictures.

Swings

This is the playground they got to run around in.

Kevin was even brave enough to try two roller coasters. He is tall enough to ride them with one of us. He first wanted to try Pandemonium. (Here is a video on it.) The car spins as it goes around the track. He immediately shrank down in his seat, but he got through it. I just held on to him. He didn't like it, but he wasn't upset when he got off.

He was still brave enough to try the Mine Train with Kevin. (Here is video of it.) He did not like that at all. Kevin said that he was so scared he was getting extremely upset. This one goes much faster and there is a big hill in a tunnel at the end. We will not try this one again for a while.

We had a lot of fun that day, with pretty good weather and some short lines. However, we know next time not to end with the bumper cars. Colin wasn't tall enough to ride, so he and I had to sit outside and watch. I asked if he wanted to go and ride something else or go for a walk, but he didn't want to. And to make it worse, it was the longest line of the day.

Overall, both boys still had a great time, and we can't wait to return next summer!
