Book Night
Sometimes we have a Movie Night in our house. We order pizza and spread blankets out everywhere to eat while watching. We make popcorn and have a fun night.
Last night Kevin told us that we are having a Book Night. Colin agreed. So they took it upon themselves to get out blankets (and one shower curtain) and spread them out. Kevin even moved the coffee table and Gwyn's jumparoo into the other room. Both Kevin and Colin made sure that each chair had a pillow, and that some were on the floor for when we read on the floor. (There were no pillows left upstairs at all.) They were so into it that I took them to the library to get new books (and the last two in his Beast Quest series) to have our first Book Night!
Here are two pictures. The reason Gwyn is all alone is because I set her down to take the picture.

New Mommy
A week or so ago Daddy, Kevin and Colin were driving to daycare. They were discussing family.
Daddy: I like my family. I think I will keep you.
Boys: Yeah!
Daddy: Well, except Mommy. Maybe we will get a new Mommy.
Kevin: Yeah. One that shares desserts.
Pictured is my favorite dessert - key lime pie. I have no shame about keeping it all to myself.

Gwyn's 4 Month Stats
Here is what we found out at her doctor's appointment:
Gwyn weighs 15 lbs 3.8 oz, which puts her at the 80%ile.
She is 26 inches long, which puts her in the 95%ile.
She is definitely starting to look like a McGuire baby in the chunky phase!

Chicago 2011 Part 2
Sorry it has taken a while to finish this post. School started this week for me.
On our third day in Chicago, we all headed to the Children's Museum at Navy Pier. The boys really enjoyed it last year, and wanted to return. Gwyn was too little to play with anything, even the stuff for the youngest kids, but she still had a good time watching her brothers and napping in her stroller. (Here is our visit from last year.)
Kevin wanted me to take a picture of him pretending to be afraid of the dinosaur.
Here is him moments later, being brave!
The exhibit last year was cooking food, but this year it was forts! They had couches, cushions, chairs, blankets, sheets, and pillows. They even had doors, coat hangers, and windows that had small knobs to hang the sheets from. We had a window in our fort! I suspect Kevin and I could have been there all day. Here is a Colin's attempt at making a fort.

Next we headed to the construction zone. The boys didn't build anything in particular, just a tower. Kevin focused on added parts to it so it wouldn't fall over, while Colin did his best to add to it so it would fall over. It was an endless project.

We crossed a different bridge this time. Our train station is in downtown St. Louis, about a mile from the Arch.
One last picture. This was the night we got home. I think the boys got used to sleeping in the same bed in the hotel!

After naps, we returned to the diner we found last year. It wasn't anywhere near our hotel, but it gave us an opportunity to ride the train again! Kevin and I planned on taking DTG there since she agreed to go on the trip!

After dinner, Gwyn and daddy returned to the hotel while DTG and myself took the boys on a few more train rides. We didn't plan on it being incredibly crowded and sweaty. Colin was so sad that he didn't get a window seat that he cried most of the time. It wasn't as great as I hoped, but we tried.

The next morning we got up early and headed to the train station. We planned to arrive in St. Louis around 3:00.

We made it about over this bridge, and then sat. For two hours. We ended up getting back around 5:00. So we did dinner downtown, and then headed home! It was a strange and long trip home. Luckily we had plenty of snacks, milk, and diapers. (I would say that we played more games of cribbage, but our board somehow broke...) We won't go to Chicago again next year (We are going to try somewhere new.), but I can't wait for when we return!

Bath Time
Gwyn has gotten more and more alert the last two weeks. She is really starting to grab at things now. I can't have things on the table in front of me within reach now. And she is starting to sit on her own, but only for a few seconds. But the big thing to me is how aware of her environment she is. She is starting to raise her arms when I go to pick her up, and talks to friends at daycare. Here is another example from tonight:

Random Pictures

She is now eating cereal! She is doing a great job. We forgot that somehow all of our kids pass out when learning to eat cereal. She falls asleep just like her brothers!

Chicago 2011 Part 1
At the end of July we returned to Chicago for a family vacation. (Here are last year's posts about the trip - Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 5, and Day 6.) This year we traveled with my mom, who is called Downtown Grandma (DTG). We also added Gwyn to the bunch as well! Traveling with her was about as easy as I predicted, but much more challenging than K2 predicted. I think she did great. She fell asleep about an hour later than normal at night, but did much better than her brothers who could not stop playing. She slept through the night.
Before I go through the activities, I want to list a few things about what we learned while on this trip.
1. Use caution when traveling with DTG. I am pretty sure she is no longer allowed to travel to the northeastern region of the US. She visited it twice in 2003. The first time there was a historic blackout, and the second time there was a devastating hurricane. This time, it was bed bugs. However, they were isolated to just her room. None of us got bit, luckily!
2. K2 is very comfortable to sleep on while riding a train.
3. The boys love chocolate chip muffins, courtesy of the hotel buffet breakfast.
4. Gwyn loves her daddy. (We already knew that, but it is very obvious when she won't stop crying, and then stops instantly when daddy picks her up. It was very helpful when on the train.)
5. No matter what train or bus we got on, there was always a kid crying. (Of course, it was always our own kids, but still worth mentioning.)
6. Gwyn sucks her thumb at night. All night. And loud enough to wake us up.
7. When tired, Colin will fall asleep anywhere, including the bus after a long day.
We left Thursday afternoon on an Amtrak train. This year we took an earlier train so we arrived at 8:00 pm, instead of 11:30 pm like last year. Of course the boys loved the ride. Gwyn didn't really care for it as much.
We stayed at the Embassy Suites, which was perfect since K2, Gwyn, and I all slept in the back bedroom (Gwyn had a crib), while the boys slept in the front room on the fold out. Also, we could talk and watch tv while they napped. The boys each got to pick out whatever toys they could fit in their duffel bags. Kevin picked the baby, and decided to keep her in the stroller. It was a tie between creepy and funny.
On Friday we headed to the Museum of Science and Industry. Gwyn stayed at the hotel with DTG, which was appreciated. Here are some pictures.

We got to watch out toy get made at ToyMaker 300.
After naps we all walked to Pizzeria Due for dinner.
Saturday we all headed to Shedd Aquarium.

At the dolphin show. We do not recommend. They talked about training the dolphins for over 20 minutes, the dolphins did 6 jumps, and then it was over.
For dinner we all traveled to Elephant & Castle for dinner. It is the only thing K2 was determined to do while in Chicago. The boys liked it because they got dessert. K2 liked it because he got his bread pudding.
