Oops

Apparently I put Gwyn down when she was hungry and needed snuggle. Thankfully Aunt Cathy was there to take a quick picture.

Zoo Tour 2012

We did a tour of the zoo Monday. We get one tour a year with our membership, and last time we toured the penguin area. The boys got to touch the penguins, and they had fun. This time, though, we toured the giraffes! My mom even got to join us on the tour again!

We lucked out with fantastic weather. It was clear and about 80 outside. We rode to the giraffe enclosure and got to feed the three giraffes bamboo. Kevin didn't like feeding the giraffes, but Colin fed them the entire time. Gwyn just stayed with daddy most of the time. The keepers were very kind and very informative! Then we got a nice ride around the zoo and got more stories about the animals. It was a very lovely morning! We ended it with lunch at the zoo before heading home for naps.

Gwyn got to wear shoes for the first time, now that she decided to walk everywhere. She still isn't sure of herself in the shoes, but she is adorable!

Before the tour we had time to ride the carousel. Kevin and Colin had fun. Kevin was excited to ride the silverback gorilla.

Gwyn was less enthusiastic.

While waiting for the tour to start, Gwyn showed off standing in her shoes.

The giraffes were in their inside enclosure so we could see and feed them. They moved outside when we left.

Colin and DTG feeding the giraffes.

The bamboo we fed them is grown at the zoo. You can see it on the train rides.

Gwyn was most concerned with staying close to daddy.

I took this picture through a fence. This is the new seal area. It will open in June. It will have a tunnel that goes under the water area so you can see the seals swimming.

Kevin wanted his picture with Phil. I can't believe how big he is getting!

Of course Colin climbed up too!

Last picture of the day. Gwyn was ready to sleep! Her head was dropping and resting on me.

Gwyn Update - She is almost a year old!

Here are a few things about what Gwyn is doing now.
  • She knows a few words. When she wants her brothers, she says "ba ba ba." She also says "gu gu gu" whenever she walks, but that is because I always so "Go Gwyn, go!" when she walks. She says mama and dada as well, but those are not as cute.
  • She has been practicing walking for a few weeks now, but this weekend she decided to try to walk everywhere. She still falls, but she I really don't see her crawl much anymore!
  • Her favorite place is being on the couch. That is where the boys go to escape the "GwynMonster". So whenever she is up there, she walks back and forth laughing and squealing the entire time.
  • She loves to give kisses. She is in the stage where she opens her mouth and sticks her tongue out and stay there for an uncomfortable amount of time.
  • She loves to play on our bed. Her favorite thing to do is to start on her knees and then flop herself down repeatedly onto her belly.
  • When she is finished eating she grunts and screams while she tries to lift off her tray off her chair.
  • She still goes to bed like a boss. She eats and then tries to roll out of my arms if I do anything like sing to her. She wants to go straight to the crib!
  • Another new thing is singing in the car. Like all of our children, she is going through a phase where most of the car ride is spent listening to her say "ahhhhhhhhh!" over and over and over. She is so loud Kevin and I have to speak louder to hear each other when we are both in the front seat. It is pretty funny.

That is all for now! I am sure I will think of more as soon as I post this.

Kevin's Picture for his (Soon to be) Australian Aunt

Aunt Kelly is moving to Australia in less than 2 weeks, and Kevin wanted to make her a picture. He had some pictures of Australian animals, so he cut them out and made this!

Here are a few details:

This is a koala in a tree, with a baby on its back.

Here are two dingos eating a female kangaroo. How do I know it is female? Because he told me that male kangaroos fight with their feet and the females don't. Notice all the blood he drew on the kangaroo since it is being eaten.

Should I worry about all the nature and animal shows he watches? They are either PBS or Discovery Channel!

Word Wall

Kevin has started adding his own words to the word wall. There a few he can read that are not up on the wall, and so he has started adding them himself! I find it adorable.

Also, I am aware that I am a dork for having a word wall in my kitchen. Pretty soon Colin will get his number wall. I guess that is what happens in a teacher's house. Also, this is our library downstairs. I love it! But I am a reading specialist, so I am prepared to be made fun of.

Swim Lessons

Both boys started swim lessons last week. Gwyn got in the water too, just to play. Here are a few pictures. (Warning - our camera isn't too good, so we didn't get many pictures that are worthy of our blog.)

At the end of the lesson, the teacher threw out these rings. Both boys were supposed to pick them up. Kevin cam running back with about ten on each arm. The other boy only had about 5. I saw Kevin elbowing him out of the way a few times.
