Very early this morning, Gwyn came to our room. (Full disclosure: even though I know it is a child of mine shaking me, I still screamed a little at the sight of a tiny person next to the bed in a dark room.) Gwyn was sobbing because the thunder woke her up and she was all alone.* So I told her to get her blanket and she could sleep with me. I got to snuggle with Gwyn this morning. It was awesome.** She likes to snuggle with my arms wrapped around her.
*She was not alone. She sleeps in Colin's bed since Kevin has graduated to his own bed and Colin doesn't want to be alone. Also, since Kevin is on the top bunk where it is hot, he often sleeps on the floor. With all the rain over the weekend it has been cold enough for him to be in bed instead of on the floor. So Gwyn was in the room with both brothers, one of which was sleeping in the bed next to her, the other on the top bunk!
** It was kind of less awesome in reality. I loved it, but that girl is a heater. She made me so hot. And my arm fell asleep. But it was still awesome since I get that memory.
Her sleeping in our bed reminds me of our first night back from Mexico last week. (Blog post coming later.) We picked the kids up around 7 pm from Kevin's parents and headed home. Around midnight Colin walked into the room and just climbed into bed. (He said he was sleep walking, but with a wily grin on his face, so I doubt it.) He stayed in bed all night next to me.*** And for those who don't know, our kids RARELY sleep in our bed. The kids get to take turns when Kevin travels, but that is about it. Whenever there are storms and the kids are scared, we just put them together.
***This kid is a heater. More than Gwyn. And he is a fierce snuggler, meaning if I put an inch between us he would move back in. He had to be pressed against me all night. I didn't get much sleep, but it was worth it.
