In the never ending quest for a perfect lawn, K2 decided to overseed the yard today. That means the boys wanted to overseed the yard today. In case you didn't know, wherever Daddy is, that is where they want to be. See the picture of a previous time K2 went outside to do yard work.
It began by K2 mowing the lawn. Not sure why, but boys love watching the lawn get mowed. That continues into adulthood. Colin brought out his own little mower to help. After mowing K2 had a garden weasel to help break up the dirt in the various bare spots. Kevin was very interested in this, "Why do you need to break the dirt?" Colin was in more of a management role, standing close enough to the work to get some credit, but not really doing anything.
I thought it would be fun to have a pretend picnic. I got out some old blankets and put them on the grass. The boys loved it. Lunchtime was fast approaching and Kevin came up with a great idea, "Can we have a picnic for lunch?" That was a great idea. I cooked up lunch and brought it outside for the boys. Colin didn't want to stop playing with his mini wheel barrow and sit down to eat. He let us know his opinion when we took it away from him. Even in toddler language it is not appropriate to repeat. Kevin, on the other hand, did a great job eating outside on the blankets. When I asked him to have some pineapple he replied, "May I have a fork for my pineapple please?" That kid is too kind.
Colin didn't recover from his disgruntled state and had to go down early for nap. Kevin finished lunch and stayed outside to help Daddy. He helped move some dirt to level spots. They found some worms. He even helped put down the seed. You can locate those spots next spring by looking for the small spots with too much grass.
I took Kevin in for nap and went back out to help K2 finish up. We had to put down some hay in bare spots and brush over the grass to knockdown the seed. About 45 minutes later we went back in. I walked by the stairs and noticed somebody. Kevin was at the top of the stairs where he waits for us when he needs something. Apparently he had to go potty. I have no idea how long he had been there. I came in once after he went down to check on him, but it had been a long time. And anyone who knows him knows that he waits quietly for a very long time. So I asked him how long he had been sitting there. He responded, "Too long." I hear ya kid. Next step- going potty on your own!
